Are you using Earth Observation technologies to monitor, understand, or reimagine mine waste facilities for a greener future? Join us at the EGU General Assembly 2026 in Vienna for the session “From Risk to Resource: EO for Mine Waste (ERE4.2)”.
Moritz Kirsch, together with Teresa Valente, Patrícia Gomes, Rosie Blannin, and Hernan Flores, will co-convene a session showcasing innovative applications of multi-scale remote sensing and Earth Observation.
We’re seeking inspiring research and development approaches that help manage risks and unlock the resource potential of mine waste. Key topics of interest include:
Geotechnical aims: stability and deformation monitoring, erosion modelling, water balance, and moisture mapping.
Environmental aims: water pollution and acid mine drainage, dust and aerosols, vegetation health monitoring, and ecosystem recovery.
Valorisation aims: re-mining and re-processing case studies linking EO-derived composition or proxies to processing options for secondary CRM recovery.
